'The X Factor' Redux: 5 Afterthoughts around the Shows Premiere
FoxSteve Johnson, left, Nicole Scherzinger, L.A. Reid, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole It feels as though we've been waiting ten years for that X Step to hit U.S. shores. Since Simon Cowell's latest reality singing competition made its broadcast debut on Fox -- and that we've were built with a day to process the occasions of Wednesday evening -- your trusty THR TV lovers possess some ideas... PHOTOS: Fall TV's 12 Most Anticipated Shows 1. Wait, why was Cheryl Cole fired again? Following the first episode, which featured original hire Cole within the Cowell-adjacent chair (and charged like a "guest judge"), it appears America can use a indication: Why exactly was she left in the show? Putting all Women Aloud and U.K. dance track partiality aside, Cole not just held her very own around the panel, she was more exciting to look at than her alternative, Nicole Scherzinger (more about that in just a minute). So here is a refresher on Cole's very public dismissal: The network and show forces-that-be might have had an problem using the singer's Geordie accent. Some stated she did not have "good chemistry" with Paula Abdul and also the relaxation from the panel (for that record, Abdul declines this). Searching back, everything just appears ridiculous. We are not speaking apples to oranges when evaluating Scherzinger and Cole it's a lot more like a sour macs versus. a juicy red-colored. Contrary, the small screen time Cole received around the episode left us wanting more. Guest mentor, anybody? PHOTOS: Behind the curtain: THR's 'X Factor' Cover Shoot 2. Simon and Paula Reunion lands having a whimper, not really a thud:For the buzz we have heard and don't forget concerning the Simon-Paula connection, their go back to the judges' table was a little of the disappointment -- no insults were hurled, no cheekbones smacked (upstairs or downstairs) it appears as though mean Simon has given method to understanding Paula. Fortunately, L.A. Reid was nearby to create a few of the mediocre participants down again to earth, but here's wishing not every one of Simon's harshness is lost throughout his time from Hollywood. THR's Complete 'X Factor' Coverage 3. Even X Factor, using its $5 million prize, is hit through the recession:Discuss striking home: 13-year-old La auditioner Rachel Crow develops from a family that "has, like, nothingInch and it is instructed to share your bathroom with six other relatives. Any viewer whose heart didn't melt when she required thestage, recounted her story and anchored out a rousing rendition of Duffy's "Whim" most likely does not have one. 4. As pussycats go, Nicole Scherzinger Didn't MeWOW Us:Although Scherzinger was quite bubbly and charming throughout last week's X Factor premiere and Q&A session, the jury has gone out how her knowing contributions will impact the panel. To become fair, she only made an appearance within the second hour from the first show and was most likely still getting her ocean legs, but when Scherzinger doesn't raise her game rapidly, she'll be treading precariously near to being the "Ellen of X Factor." For the time being, we're keeping the belief before basically writing off Schzeringer because the Sing-Off's sloppy seconds. STORY: Simon Cowell to 'X Factor' Hopefuls: Don't Sing These 5 Tunes Bonus: Not enough airtime for Steve Johnson.Note to exhibit producers: Don't skimp around the Johnson. You've got a potential breakout star to deal with, so please exploit him properly. Our advice to X Factor is, whatever average quantity of screen time Ryan Seacrest got, multiply it by 10 making the women of America happy.
